ETIAS 2025 refers to the European Travel Information and Authorization System (ETIAS), a new entry requirement for visa-exempt travelers visiting countries in the Schengen Area. It is expected to come into effect in 2025. Here’s a detailed breakdown of what ETIAS is and how it works:
What is ETIAS?
ETIAS is an electronic system designed to enhance border security and streamline the entry process for travelers entering the Schengen Zone. It is similar to the U.S. ESTA (Electronic System for Travel Authorization).
While ETIAS is not a visa, it is a pre-travel authorization that travelers from visa-exempt countries must obtain before their trip.
Who Needs ETIAS?

- Citizens of countries that do not require a Schengen Visa (e.g., the USA, Canada, Australia, Japan) will need to apply for ETIAS before visiting Schengen countries.
- Exclusions:

- ETIAS does not apply to EU citizens or individuals with long-term residence permits in EU or Schengen countries, such as Bulgarians, Romanians, and other Schengen Area residents.

Quick Approval

Validity
ETIAS authorization will be valid for up to 3 years or until the passport used for the application expires, whichever comes first. It allows multiple entries into the Schengen Area for stays of up to 90 days within a 180-day period
Why Was ETIAS Introduced?
ETIAS was created to:

ETIAS and Bulgaria
Since Bulgaria and Romania are now Schengen members:

- However, third-country nationals residing in Bulgaria or Romania, who are from visa-exempt countries, will need ETIAS if they travel to other Schengen countries.
Start date
As of now, the ETIAS is not operational. Its implementation has been postponed to mid-2025, as confirmed by the European Union in October 2023. No action is required from travelers at this time. We will monitor official updates and provide information once ETIAS becomes operational.
